Regulatory affairs manages the institution's relationship with its supervisors: examination management, regulatory change tracking, licence and registration filings, consultation responses, and the internal translation of new rules into control requirements. It is adjacent to financial crime rather than inside it, but in practice the two share the same examinations.

Backgrounds are mixed — ex-regulators, legal and policy specialists, and compliance practitioners who moved from running controls to interpreting the rules behind them. Written precision is the core skill: most of the output is a document that a supervisor will read.
