CAMS, CFE, and CGSS Compared
Which certification maps to which career track, and what employers actually screen for.
CAMS
The default credential for BSA/AML generalists. It appears in most analyst and manager postings at banks and credit unions and is frequently a stated requirement rather than a preference.
CFE
Fraud-weighted. Most valuable in fraud strategy, investigations, and internal-fraud functions, and less relevant to sanctions or CDD tracks.
CGSS
Sanctions specialist credential. Increasingly requested at digital asset firms, correspondent banks, and screening vendors where OFAC exposure is the primary risk.
Sequencing
Analysts should hold CAMS before specializing. Add CGSS when moving into sanctions, CFE when moving into fraud, and CRCM when the path is toward a broader compliance officer mandate.
